Editorial Policy

This page explains who is responsible for the articles on this site, how they are sourced and dated, and what happens when something needs to be corrected.

Who is responsible

The site and its articles are published by Andrew Wichterman, PhD, LPC, a licensed professional counselor and supervisor in Michigan with 19 years in practice and a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision. He provides comprehensive ADHD evaluations for children, teens and adults, in person in West Michigan and virtually throughout Michigan. Every article carries his byline, and he is responsible for what the site publishes. You can read more about Dr. Wichterman.

He is not a physician. Articles that touch on medication describe what the research and clinical guidelines say. They are not prescribing advice, and decisions about medication belong with your prescriber.

How articles are written

Articles are written for adults with ADHD, for parents and for clinicians. They draw on Dr. Wichterman’s 19 years in practice and on published research. Where an article describes what tends to happen in evaluations or in counseling, it reflects patterns seen in clinical work, not a prediction about any one person.

How sources are chosen

Clinical claims rely on peer-reviewed research, on professional guidelines such as the American Academy of Pediatrics’ ADHD guideline and the American Psychiatric Association’s DSM-5-TR, and on standard clinical references such as Russell Barkley’s work on adult ADHD. Most articles end with a list of their sources. Where the evidence is weak or mixed, as it is for most supplements and for several popular non-medication treatments, the article says so rather than rounding up.

Faith content

Some articles are written from an explicitly Christian perspective, and many of them are collected in the Faith and ADHD section. The clinical information on the site stands on its own, whatever a reader’s beliefs.

Dates and updates

Each article shows the date it was published. Articles that have been revised also show the date they were last updated. New articles are published a few at a time on a regular schedule, and each one is dated the day it goes live.

Corrections

If you find a factual error, a broken link or an out-of-date recommendation, email aw@drandrewwichterman.com with the page address and what needs fixing. Reports are reviewed, and confirmed errors are corrected in the article, with its last-updated date changed to show when.

Advertising and affiliate links

This site may show advertising, and it includes affiliate links to books on Amazon and to a Fullscript supplement store. Advertising and commissions do not influence what is written or recommended. Dr. Wichterman’s own books, guides, apps and clinician course are presented as his own products. The terms of use include the full disclosure.

Not a substitute for care

Everything here is educational. It is not a substitute for an individual assessment, diagnosis or treatment, and reading it does not create a counselor–client relationship. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 or call 911.
