Comprehensive ADHD testing in Grand Rapids and Byron Center

A real evaluation, not a rushed checklist. Clinical interview, standardized testing, collateral input, careful differential diagnosis, and a written report you can actually use — for children ages 6 and up, teens, and adults.

What the evaluation includes

Testing happens across two appointments. Most of the work is invisible to you — scoring, interpretation, and writing typically take longer than the time we spend face to face.

2

appointments, a week or two apart

~3 hrs

face to face, plus scales at home

01

Session one

Clinical interview

About an hour on developmental, medical, academic, and emotional history. This is where the pattern either shows up across your life or it doesn’t — and that distinction matters more than any single test score.

02

Session one

Standardized testing

Roughly two hours of objective measures, including the TOVA, plus validated rating scales completed between sessions by you and by people who know you well.

03

Between sessions

Differential diagnosis

Anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep disorders, and learning differences all imitate ADHD. Ruling them in or out is the part cheap screenings skip.

04

Between sessions

Written report

A full report summarizing findings, diagnostic impressions, and specific recommendations — written to be usable by schools, physicians, and employers.

05

Session two

Feedback session

We sit down and go through what the results actually mean, in plain language, along with next steps that often have nothing to do with medication.

Cost and insurance

Both locations run the same two-session evaluation and bill insurance directly where your plan covers testing. Self-pay rates are set by each practice; call for current cash-pay amounts.

The one phone call that saves you money

Before scheduling, call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask four questions: Does my plan cover psychological or ADHD testing, and is it subject to my deductible? Do I need a referral or prior authorization? Is this provider in network for my specific policy? If out of network, what are my reimbursement benefits?

Write down the answers and the name of the representative. If your plan doesn’t cover testing, a superbill is available for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Kids and teens

Children ages 6 and up. Evaluations lean more heavily on parent and teacher rating scales, school records, and developmental history. The goal is an accurate answer early enough to change the trajectory of school and self-esteem.

The report is written so a school can act on it — which is often the difference between a diagnosis and actual accommodations.

Adults

Adult evaluations focus on lifelong history, current functioning across work and relationships, and ruling out the conditions that mimic ADHD. Many adults arrive after years of being told they were scattered, sensitive, or not trying hard enough.

Testing is available in person in West Michigan and virtually throughout Michigan.
